This has been an extraordinary year full of challenging and unpredictable developments. As we rang in the New Year, I could never have predicted that we would close the theatre within a few months and postpone the last two shows of the 2019-2020 season. Although we have been warned for years about the threat of a pandemic, I suspect most of us never really expected it would come with the force of COVID 19. But here we are. On the positive side Ontario, and the rest of Canada, is coming out of hibernation and beginning the process of opening for business. While life may not get back to where it was quickly or even fully, we are moving toward resuming our previous lives. The Curtain Club is no exception. Given the uncertainty of the progression toward ‘business as usual’ and the potential of a second coronavirus wave in the fall, the Curtain Club has reviewed various possibilities for next season that take into consideration the health, safety and comfort of our members and patrons. After much thought and deliberation, the Curtain Club has decided to further postpone the two remaining plays of this current season. Although we haven’t yet settled on the actual show dates, they both will be presented in the spring of 2021. Tempting Providence will be performed mid-March to mid-April and I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change will be performed mid-May to mid-June. We will ensure that everyone is informed when the actual show dates have been chosen. All tickets purchased this year for these shows will be honoured next season. This was not an easy decision to make. I cannot recall in my 20 years at the Curtain Club when a season was postponed so drastically. However, for the health and safety of everyone we believe this decision is a prudent and necessary one. Our plan is for the theatre to get back to business in January 2021 when rehearsals resume. The Curtain Club will follow the guidelines recommended by public health to clean and disinfect our theatre space and will put into place any measures necessary to maintain a sanitized space. We will keep you informed and updated about what steps we will be taking as we move closer to opening. The ongoing day-to-day operations of the theatre will continue in regards to building maintenance, grounds work and safety checks. You may not be aware that the costs to run the theatre for one year is approximately $60,000. We know that many of you support us over the summer when you renew your subscriptions (which won’t happen this year). So, if you would still like to support us with a donation, we would certainly appreciate it. Just mail in a cheque or click on the “Donate” button below and complete the transaction. You will receive a tax receipt for all donations over $10. We are committed to our members and audience and are exploring various methods for keeping in touch. We realize these are very unusual circumstances that require very unique ideas. We will connect with you in the fall with online content that you can experience until we can get together in person. We would enjoy hearing from you so please do not hesitate to contact us. Our love of theatre is our mutual connection. Stay safe and enjoy the summer.
